Jane Ekin-Smyth | Consultant

Jane Ekin-Smyth is a Consultant in O'Loughlins Lawyers Litigation Group practising exclusively in the area of Family Law.

Jane was awarded a Bachelor of Law in 1982 from the University of Adelaide, and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice in 1983 from the University of South Australia. She regularly attends continuing legal education sessions.

Jane joined O'Loughlins in 2018 after working for over 30 years in legal practice exclusively in the area of Family Law. Jane operated her own Family Law Practice for nearly 20 years and has extensive experience in all areas of Family Law.

Jane has appeared personally in the Family Law Courts on countless occasions during the course of her career which has spanned decades. She has personally seen significant changes in the Family Law System.

She has represented clients in negotiations, conciliation conferences, formal and informal mediations, and in Court. Jane has also appeared in other jurisdictions such as the Magistrates Court, the District Court, the Supreme Court and briefed counsel in the High Court of Australia.

Jane's emphasis is to assist her clients to explore all available avenues, with a view to settling a matter, without the need to go to Court. Bearing in mind the unique nature of Family Law, and the fact generally speaking the parties must maintain a relationship after their dispute is finalised, in her view, litigation is a last resort.
